Birthday in Austria

Keith woke up to a birthday in Slovenia last year, so for variety’s sake he celebrated this year’s birthday in Austria. It was the end of yet another great holiday snowboarding in Kranjska Gora and we decided to split the homeward journey up by staying in Villach, Austria for the final night. A little bit of comfort had been earned over the previous week – we stayed at the hotel Goldenes Lamm in the old town.
After a week of bland Slovenian food (sorry!) we were craving something spicy or at least tasty… We discovered with great delight that Villach not only has a great Mexican restaurant but that it had a really good happy hour too! A good sized jug or two of margarita was peanuts. And we were happy….

We’re back…

We’re back. Arrived home safe and sound, with comparatively little in the way of bruising (maybe one day I’ll publish last year’s bruise photographs…ow!) and feeling good.

Also in the news: this site has now been with its current hosts, database power, for over a year. I know. I just paid the renewal. And was reminded that theanorak.org is still registered with the original, now defunct host, ethic internet. I’ve emailed fasthosts (with whom the domain is ACTUALLY registered) to try and resolve this, and received a reply which might indicate a rather complicated series of phone calls, faxes and emails to come. I’ll keep you posted…

Seeing the Delhi sights

Had a fantastic day today with one Anne Donnelly: started off at Humayan’s Tomb (a UNESCO site) which was beautiful and peaceful in contrast to the bustle of the city, then moved on to India Gate and the President’s House and government buildings. Next stop was Jama Masjid or ‘The Friday Mosque’ in Old Delhi, built in 1658 as the mosque of Shah Jahan’s capital city and now the third largest mosque in the world. We took a rickshaw around Chadni Chowk bazaars and the old markets which was highly speedy and highly amusing!
Saw the colourful homes of the Jain neighbourhood before moving on to Connaught Place (which was mostly closed) and finally on to Delhi Haat where the shopping and bartaring fun began!!
